Junior Program

Tennis for Kids!

Our Junior Program introduces the sport of tennis in a fun and interactive way and ensures immediate success for young players aged 4yrs and up. Using modified tennis balls, racquets, nets and courts, young players are properly equipped to enjoy rallies and learn the fundamentals of the game early on. Skills are developed much quicker, allowing for an easy transition to full court.

At the Lakeview Heights Tennis Club we believe in the progressive tennis concept. All kids are required to be a Junior Member (Cost $25 for the season)  to participate in any programming. The following is a brief explanation.

Red Ball

Children aged 4 - 8 years should be enrolled in our Red Ball classes, which are played on a smaller size court, using special lower nets and a red low compression ball. (The red low compression ball is a little bit larger and lighter than the regular tennis ball.)

Orange Ball

Students aged 8 - 10 years should be enrolled in our Orange Ball classes, which are using 3/4 size court, but are using the regular nets and a orange low compression ball. (The orange low compression ball is the same size, but lighter than the regular tennis ball.)

Green Ball

Kids Balls: The progressive ball moves through the court slower and bounces lower. Young players are able to receive and project the ball easier, which aids in the development of proper technical fundamentals (grip, set-up, impact point, hitting zone, and recovery). Use of the Kids ball also promotes longer rallies and the overall importance of consistency.
Junior Racquets: This aspect is one of the most important and often ignored. The proper racquet size (length and weight) will ensure racquet head control, stability, and feel for the ball which are the most important factors in ball control. It will also help prevent future injuries from the use of oversized racquets.
Students aged over 10 years and new to the sport of tennis should be enrolled in our Green Dot Ball classes. Green dot balls are a lighter and lower compression ball, than the regular ball, which means the ball is slower and easier ball to hit than a regular ball. We are using the full size of the tennis court.
Experience students or intermediate juniors will use regular tennis balls.
